Noah's Last Day at Superland

June 13th was Noah's last day at his little local pre-school:

Superland Montessori Pre-School

He was sad to leave but excited about going to the US and going to a bilingual English/French school after that. Noah started at Superland when he was 20 months old.

Noah on his first day of school (March 10 2011)

A few weeks later, he was already a pro (April 1 2011)

The first time he put on his school uniform (it was available but not required)...

...and 2 years and three months later... Noah's last time wearing his uniform

In the big common room

Bye bye teacher Shreya

Bye bye Superland

and your great play area

Bye bye giraffe

You were so nice to me when I first started at the school and was still figuring things out.

Bye bye teacher Belle.

Noah saying goodbye to his favorite teacher, his art teacher, Teacher Linda

One last hug.

Noah loved his school especially his art teacher (they had art almost every day after lunch before I picked him up and got to try all kinds of fun techniques and mediums) though by the end, I think he was becoming a bit less enthusiastic about the repetitive "workbooks"

[Note this Post was back dated and was actually written a few months later]

Modeling Maya in June

Mexican Night

After Moroccan night and Indian night came Mexican night with our world dinner buddies. On the menu, salsas (verde and roja), homemade tortilla chips, tamales, mole chicken, Mexican rice, black beans, a coconut almond tart and chocolate balloon bowls with ice cream - Yum! (Seth and Noah did all the work so this is not me bragging about my great cooking abilities - it is me bragging about my husband's cooking abilities :) ). To prepare Noah, we read about Mexico and the Maya (which he found very funny - Maya like Maya) and looked at some pictures.

K. and her dad came a bit early to help assemble the tamales. Below Noah with the black beans, pork and masa getting ready (or playing with a balloon)

After assembling the tamales and while waiting for them to cook the kids did some Mexican inspired bracelets... (toilet paper cut in three pieces which they painted black and then glued on lentils and various other beans - see here: http://planetforward.ca/blog/cinco-de-mayo-mexican-bean-bracelet-eco-friendly-craft/).

Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of the kids and Dave assembling the tamales but below is the finished product.

Noah dipping his balloon in the chocolate after making a little "plate" for the bowl (we got the idea from this youtube video we found during our "chocolate weekend") ...

Sticking the bowl onto the "plate"

K helped with this one...

Dave tried it as well...

Noah wanted to do one more...

After putting the balloon bowls in the freezer for a bit, we popped the balloons and tada - chocolate bowls!

Noah and K eating ice cream in their chocolate bowls.

Look my hand is FULL of chocolate...

His face was too...

Thanks for coming guys.

A few days later, Noah developed a high fever so we tried another Mexican inspired craft - some maracas (decorated paper bags lined with tin foil with rice and beans inside).  Below a very feverish Noah with the result (he had 39.5 fever in this pic).

Miscellaneous May

A few random pics from May that did not make it into the blog...

May 3rd - Maya fell asleep on Noah - he was so excited

Our little chef (thank you Abby and Ron)

Little chef cutting mushroom with his special knife - and doing a great job

Maya has many modes of transportation - above on May 12 - trying out the baby bjorn facing outward (she can also face inward). She also rides in the ergo carrier, the moby wrap (thank you Ophelia), the peanut sling, the Maclaren stroller and the Graco car seat stroller!

May 16 - Maya's first haircut. Like Noah she had this bowl of longish scraggly hair in the back - with Noah we tried to trim it but then when his neck grew, it looked weird

So with Maya - we just shaved it all off -

May 23 - she is standing! (notice the cat checking her out!)

A few weekends ago, Noah had just finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory with Seth and the theme for the weekend was chocolate - we watched some videos on how chocolate is made, and the cool sculptures you can make with chocolate (including chocolate balloon bowls ... which we tried out last weekend) and here - tasting very dark, dark, milk and white chocolate - yum.

May 27 - Ms. Dracula - Maya decided that since vampires were in - she would join in the fun... pretty creepy (it's actually her iron drops which she was able to drool out that day)
